Railroad Grapple Truck Operator

Job Summary:
The Railroad Grapple Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating a grapple truck to load, unload, and transport railroad ties, track materials, and debris. This role supports railroad maintenance and construction projects by ensuring efficient material handling while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate a grapple truck to pick up, load, and transport railroad ties and related materials
  • Load and unload materials from railcars, trucks, and designated storage areas
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance checks
  • Ensure proper securing of loads for safe transportation
  • Follow all railroad, DOT, and company safety guidelines
  • Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and site personnel
  • Maintain accurate logs, reports, and inspection records
  • Assist with general labor duties as needed on job sites
  • Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required (Class A or B, depending on equipment)
  • Experience operating grapple trucks, knuckleboom loaders, or similar equipment preferred
  • Knowledge of railroad operations or construction environments is a plus
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations

Skills & Abilities:

  • Safe and efficient equipment operation
  • Strong attention to detail and situational awareness
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team
  • Good communication and time management skills
  • Physical ability to perform manual labor when required

Work Environment:

  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, and moving machinery
  • Interstate travel required

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50+ lbs
  • Frequent climbing, bending, and standing
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery for extended periods
