Railroad Grapple Truck Operator

Job Summary:
The Railroad Grapple Truck Operator is responsible for safely operating a grapple truck to load, unload, and transport railroad ties, track materials, and debris. This role supports railroad maintenance and construction projects by ensuring efficient material handling while maintaining compliance with all safety regulations and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate a grapple truck to pick up, load, and transport railroad ties and related materials
Load and unload materials from railcars, trucks, and designated storage areas
Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance checks
Ensure proper securing of loads for safe transportation
Follow all railroad, DOT, and company safety guidelines
Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and site personnel
Maintain accurate logs, reports, and inspection records
Assist with general labor duties as needed on job sites
Identify and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must be at least 21 years of age
Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required (Class A or B, depending on equipment)
Experience operating grapple trucks, knuckleboom loaders, or similar equipment preferred
Knowledge of railroad operations or construction environments is a plus
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Strong understanding of safety procedures and regulations

Railroad Lookout (Watchman)

Job Summary:
The Railroad Lookout is responsible for ensuring the safety of all personnel working on or near railroad tracks by monitoring train activity and providing timely warnings of approaching trains or on-track equipment. This role is critical in maintaining a safe work environment during railroad maintenance and construction operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain constant vigilance for approaching trains, vehicles, or on-track equipment
Provide clear and timely warnings to crews using horns, radios, or other signaling devices
Ensure all workers are in a safe location prior to train passage
Communicate directly with train crews, dispatchers, and supervisors when required
Enforce railroad safety rules, procedures, and on-track protection protocols
Remain at assigned post without distraction while crews are working on or near tracks
Assist with job site setup and breakdown as needed
Participate in daily job briefings and safety meetings
Report any unsafe conditions or incidents immediately

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must be at least 18 years of age
Prior railroad experience preferred but not required
Must be able to pass railroad safety training and certification (e.g., Roadway Worker Protection training)
Valid driver’s license may be required depending on job location

Railroad Tie Sorter / Bundler

Job Summary:
The Railroad Tie Sorter/Bundler is responsible for sorting, organizing, and bundling railroad ties for reuse, resale, or disposal. This role supports railroad maintenance operations by ensuring ties are properly graded, stacked, and prepared for transport in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

Sort railroad ties based on condition, size, and usability (reusable, scrap, or disposal)
Stack and bundle ties according to company and customer specifications
Use banding equipment, chains, or straps to secure bundles for transport
Work alongside equipment operators (grapple trucks, loaders) to maintain workflow
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards
Follow all safety procedures, including proper handling of heavy materials
Assist with loading and unloading trucks or railcars as needed
Inspect ties for defects, damage, or contamination
Communicate with supervisors and crew members to maintain efficiency

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred
Must be at least 18 years of age
Previous labor, construction, or railroad experience preferred

Civil Construction Laborer

Job Summary:
The Civil Construction Laborer supports municipal infrastructure projects including water, sewer, and utility installation and repair. This position performs a variety of physical tasks on prevailing wage job sites while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with installation of water lines, sewer systems, and underground utilities
Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and site preparation
Hand-dig around existing utilities to prevent damage
Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment
Assist equipment operators, pipe layers, and supervisors as needed
Maintain a clean and safe job site in compliance with OSHA and municipal standards
Follow all prevailing wage job requirements and job specifications

Heavy Equipment Operator – Civil Construction

Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely operating machinery on municipal civil construction projects, including water and sewer installation, excavation, and site development. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production efficiency while ensuring compliance with prevailing wage and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, dozers, loaders, and backhoes
Perform excavation, trenching, grading, and backfilling for utility installation
Safely work around existing utilities and follow dig/locate protocols
Load trucks and assist with material placement and site preparation
Read and interpret site plans, grade stakes, and blueprints
Conduct daily equipment inspections and basic maintenance
Work closely with laborers and pipe crews to complete projects efficiently
Follow OSHA, municipal, and company safety standards at all times
